Instead, it emulates natural chemicals within the body whose purpose is to retain water in the skin to keep the skin supple and tight.

Restylane is used to shape the contours of the face, smooth the appearance of wrinkles and lines or to sculpt lips. Skin looks more healthy and full after the injections are completed.

What makes Restylane better than other cosmetic fillers?
Restylane has the advantage of not being an animal-based filler like some others. As a result, allergic reaction is much more unlikely and testing for allergy is not necessary. Plus, the possibility of animal diseases being transmitted is virtually eliminated. In addition, Restylane has been shown to last longer than some other cosmetic dermal fillers.

What do I need to know before receiving treatment with Restylane?
Although you will not neet to be pre-tested, you should know that some substances, when taken prior to injection can increase bruising and bleeding. Talking to your cosmetic specialist before treatment is the best preventative measure, but be sure to avoid Aspirin, Vitamin E and other medications.

How will my doctor perform Restylane treatment?
Restylane treatment is a short procedure that lasts no longer than an hour. Depending on the size of the area you have selected for treatment, it may take as little as a few minutes. Using a micro-needle, the doctor injects targeted sites on the face for the optimum result.

Is there much pain associated with treatment?
Thankfully, the ultra fine needle used for injection makes for a very limited discomfort or pain. If patients do experience pain, a topical anesthetic is available upon request. For lip augmentation, a local anesthetic is usually administered.

What can I expect of my Restylane treatment?
Results are visible nearly immediately, although there is often some redness and swelling. These minor irritations generally disappear after a day or two. Restylane lasts approximately six months, after which the treated area will return to the pretreatment state. Follow up treatments can maintain the results for longer.
