Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal targets the pigment of the hair follicle without causing damage to the pores and structures of the skin. Passing a small handpiece, or wand, against the skin, coolant is applied to the area and the laser is activated concurrently. This action is repeated over the entire area chosen for epilation.

Depilatory procedures that use laser are much faster than electrolysis and do not carry the same pain. Electrolysis targets a single hair at a time and requires a significant amount of time for large areas. Laser pulses disable many hair follicles at once and even disable unpigmented hairs that are in the "active" growth stage. This means that larger areas can be treated at once with laser hair removal than electrolysis, waxing or tweezing.

Although it can take many sessions to fully treat an area, it often takes from 4-6 laser treatments. This is due to the cycle in which hair follicles move between "active" and "dormant" status. In order for it to be depigmented, a hair must be in the active status. For this reason, at least 3 treatments are recommended.

Different skin types react differently to the laser, but most patients experience little or no pain at all. If you have a more sensitive skin type, you can request an anesthetic cream to relieve the pain.
